Pozo de la Salud
Pozo de la Salud (38912 Frontera) – this 18th century well is located near the village of Sabinosa, on a seaside cliff made of porous lava. This lava lies on top of a substrate rich in clay making it, thus, almost waterproof. Therefore, the rainwater that filters down to the area is caught. The influence of the sea on the remaining volcanic activity means that these thermal waters contain a large amount of salts, mainly calcium and magnesium, which, according to tradition and folklore, bestow miraculous healing powers upon the same, representing the cure for many illnesses.
Due to the curative properties of the water from that well, there is a hotel in that area (Hotel Balneario Pozo de la Salud), which offers accommodations and therapeutic treatments to interested visitors (from Turkish baths, to saunas, hydro massage showers and a Jacuzzi). Large bottles of that well’s water were even exported to Cuba and Puerto Rico.
